Working in collaboration with book retailing giant Barnes & Noble, Ammunition developed the product concept, brand idea, interaction model and industrial design for the NOOK family of e-book readers and tablets. The goal of the project was to take Barnes & Noble’s love of the simple, tactile, immersive pleasure of reading and convert it into a leadership position within the fiercely competitive e-reader and tablet market.
Built on the idea that “books do not have buttons,” NOOK’s industrial and interaction design focuses on delivering media to users in a beautiful, simple, and approachable format geared toward single-hand usage. This approach extends from single-purpose, dedicated e-readers to multipurpose tablet computers. The Ammunition-designed range of products includes the original NOOK, the NOOK Simple Touch, NOOK GlowLight, NOOK HD, the world’s lightest and highest-resolution 7-inch tablet, and NOOK HD+, the world’s lightest full HD tablet.
